I had to give up drugs
The other day I looked in the mirror

TRUTH

THE BLUE FLAME OF TRUTH

The bible sez: Less ye be born again you can't
enter the kingdom of heaven

Ever watch a moth fluttering around a flame.  The moth is mezmerized and pulled to it.  But if it gets to close.....

Then maybe one time it gets to close and singes a wing.

Suddenly it has a choice, to fall to the ground and die
without succeeding
...or
to plunge into the flame and suceed by dieing

Trouble is. dieing ain't easy

PASSAGE

PASSAGE
and the most
Magical Morning

I had made a trip North in my sailboat, a 27' New
Port sloop I called the SABRINA ANN after my daughter.

I had gone to Harve de Grace a small town right at the top of the Chesapeake Bay to visit my father for the summer in Lancaster, Pa.

I had lingered too long in Yankee land.  The weather had started to turn cold.  I picked up the hook and headed South.

I had not cleaned the marine growth off the bottom so it was slow going because of the drag.

On the way up I had met a diver in Portsmouth.  He wanted a picture of his girl friend done.  I figured I could trade him to clean the bottom of my boat.
Bad news, when I got to Portsmouth he had broken up with her.

Things went from bad to worse.  I got sick and had to go to the hospital.  I was in Portsmouth eleven cold, miserable days before I could move on.

The first break in the weather I made it as far as the free dock at Great Bridge.

I passed Coin Jock and pulled into what appeared to be a deserted marina.
There was power on the dock so I plugged in and put the heater on and toasted my frozen buns.

In about an hour someone came by looking for some rent.  The prospect of spending a cold nite on the hook was not appealing so I gave him some money and cooked some dinner.

I was up at first light.  It was a lousy, cold, miserable day.

Late in the day as it started to get dark I was still in the middle of no where, some where North of the Albermarle sound.  I was exhausted so I pulled over to the side and splashed the hook.

I opened a can of spegetti O,s and woofed 'em down cold.  I crawled under every cover I had with all my clothes on and crashed.

I woke around first light.  It was cold and drizzling.  This time of year traveling time was limited to about six good hours.  If I was gonna' make any progress I had to get up and get moving.  The last thing in the world I wanted to do was get out of bed.

I got up and made a cup of coffee then looked outside.  I took the coffee and got back in bed and dozed off.

When I woke the rain had stopped and the sun was up.  I got up and picked up the hook.  I fired up iron wind Alice and motored out into the bay.  A breeze freshened up so I turned off Alice and set some sail.

By late afternoon I had crossed the Albermarle.  As the sun began to set I started looking for a place to drop the hook.  I was in a bay.  The depth meter said ten feet.  There was no reports of foul weather in the vincinity so I just stopped and splashed the hook.

I ate something but did not make it thru Monday night football.

I woke not long after first light.  I made a cup of coffee and went top side. I was stunned.
It was dead silent.  Nothing was moving.  I could see one duck and two seagulls on the water.
I had never seen such a magical mystical morning.

To the East the sun was behind a cloud bank.  It was tinged with gold and pink. The cloud bank extended to a fog bank on the water.  Even tho the water was black and the cloud was white, you couldn't tell where one began and the other left off.  There was no division between the two.

Then way off in the distance I saw a small speck moving towards me.  It was a power boat.  It took a long time to reach me.  As it did I noticed it's wake was like ribbons of gold on a black mirror.

I was mesmerized watching the golden waves roll acros the water towards me.  They took a long time to reach me.  It was a climatic moment as the boat gently rocked.  If I had pants on I would have wet them.

I turned and watched as they receeded towards the shore.  Just then the sun peeked over the cloud and everthing exploded into a dazzling display of
white light.

I picked up the hook and destroyed it all when I fired up iron wind Alice and moved along.
